I see a lot of casting notices where the character description reads:
"flirty"
"sexy"
"athletic"
"slim"
Any person who is not thin, is then relegated to being background.
I am not thin. I am a little on the larger side, but working on it, partly because it's costing me roles. I am a great actress, but many people never see it because they only want the thin, sexy people. I pass by those casting notices because I know they won't even give me a chance because 5'6" and 200 lbs isn't considered "sexy".
How about we normalize average, even heavy, characters in film? It would be an accurate reflection on our society.
